Montgomery County Comprehensive Plan Being Prepared
The Montgomery County Planning Commission is beginning work on a new comprehensive plan for our county. They have been receiving citizen input through surveys and community meetings on what our county will look like in 2025. Additional community meetings are being planned. Some facts to consider: --the county's population has doubled since 1950; another 100,000 people are expected by 2025; --since 1950, the county has lost an average of 50 farms and 2,500 acres of farmland every year which is equal to 125,000 acres per year (total land area in Montgomery County is about 300,000 acres); --in the last 20 years, traffic has more than doubled; --our development is sprawling, using more and more land per person, year after year. Over the next three years, the MCPC will prepare a plan that includes the following elements: Policies and Goals, Land Use, Transportation, Open Space, Housing, Economic Development, Community Facilities. State law also requires that planning for historic preservation be part of the plan.
